I painted this oil using my newly learned method of painting masses and values.  In looking this one over I discover that I did not capture the freshness and the light I wanted.  I started out great but lost it struggling with the colors.

Shown her are the three pastel paintings I entered in the 2010 Members Juried Show for the Santa Rita Art League in Green Valley. Albiqui Trinity and Tanque Verde Tranquility were both accepted to hang in the show.

I just finished up this painting today after having it on my easel since the beginning of December.  Of course there is a story...........I picked up a copy of "Desert Leaf" which is a monthly lifestyle print magazine in Tucson. There was a story about the University of Arizona dance department and the pictures that ran with the story were a study in light and form, just gorgeous.  The pictures were actually why I stopped to read the story.  I had just completed a class and wanted to practice painting the light on her skirt.  I was happy with my efforts and the painting.
                                        

Wild Basin Pastel

Wild Basin is an area of Rocky Mountain National Park just outside Estes Park, Colorado.  The photo from which this pastel was painted was taken the summer of 2010 on a hike with Jamie, Kay and Ernie Long and Lois and Rod Steele.  It was a beautiful hike and a wonderful day.  We took this particular hike toward the end of our stay in the mountains with our Columbus, Indiana friends.
